Harriet Venn, Partnership Manager and Mental Health Ambassador of Free Courses in England and Free Staff Training discusses the reasons why employers should prioritise mental health and well-being in the workplace and the benefits of doing so…
The majority of our life is spent at work and in the wake of Covid, now more than ever, it is vital we open up and support each other’s mental health.
All the best businesses know that success starts with its people.
Supporting employee’s mental health will only encourage a happy workforce which will increase productivity. Therefore, it is essential that employee wellbeing is embedded into businesses because it will lead to employees performing at their best and companies will certainly reap the benefits through optimum efficiency.
In the modern world there is a growing emphasis on working culture and diversity. Employees want to work for businesses that value and support them.
Those that struggle with mental health problems are more likely to leave their job or take time off. If a company will support an employee’s mental health with treatment and recovery it shows they are responsible for and want to encourage employee wellbeing. A great working environment will only encourage staff loyalty and job satisfaction.
Daily incidents at work can lead to a build-up of stress, burnouts and tension in the workplace.
Neglecting employee wellbeing will cause businesses to lose money as mental illness leads to absences and prolonged periods of time off work. Businesses must be proactive in supporting their employee’s mental health as it will create a healthier workforce.
Life after Covid has certainly increased the awareness of mental health issues! It is now time to remove the stigma related to mental health.
Education is the starting point! Businesses are now expected to provide a duty of care to their staff. If businesses ensure their staff enrol on courses, then their workforce will be understanding and supportive when mental health issues arise. If we learn about mental health then we are promoting a healthier future.
Progress your people, support your staff and drive real change…
