In this unit you will understand the concept of mental health. An understanding of how society views mental health and how this has changed over time will also be investigated.

You will also understand the legislation in place to support children and young people’s mental health.

Risk factors

In this unit, you will understand the risk factors that can affect children and young people’s mental health and how these can be mitigated.

You will also investigate how developmental changes and puberty can impact children and young people.

Mental health concerns

In this unit you will understand behaviours displayed by children and young people that may indicate a mental health concern.

You will also investigate common mental health conditions that affect children and young people.

The impact of mental health concerns

In this unit you will investigate the impact of mental health concerns on children, young people and others.

You will also understand the importance of diagnosis and the reasons why there may be a reluctance to seek a diagnosis.

Supporting children and young people

In this unit, you will understand the support available for children and young people’s mental health.

You will investigate a person-centred approach, mental health promotion, and the services and treatment available.

Section 1: Understand children and young people’s mental health in context

In this section, you will learn about the concept of mental health, what is meant by mental ill-health, and the prevalence of mental health problems in children and young people.

You will explore the legislation and guidance that is in place to support children and young people with mental health concerns and the duty of care that they are owed. 

You will look at society’s attitudes to mental health concerns and how society’s view of mental health has changed over time.

Is the child mental health course free?

If you meet the eligibility criteria then YES!

We connect you with learning providers that use government funding, in the form of the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and the Adult Educational Budget (AEB).

Is children's mental health a qualification?

Children’s Mental Health is a level 2 qualification. The qualification is accredited by NCFE CACHE and regulated by Ofqual.

Is the qualification recognised by employers?

All of our courses are accredited by UK government-recognised awarding bodies. These include NCFE CACHE and TQUK, with whom we work closely to ensure our existing courses, and all new ones, meet approved standards of excellence and are certified as such. NCFE CACHE and TQUK are national awarding organisations that design, develops and certifies nationally recognised qualifications and awards.

All qualifications are regulated by Ofqual and are the perfect way to boost any CV.

How many free online courses can I take?

You can only take one course at a time but you can take up to 7 in one academic year.

Do I need to sit an Exam?

No, there are no exams, all courses require you to complete assessment questions based on the knowledge you have just gained from the units.
