About this free online course
This child mental health course explores the risk factors that affect a child’s mental health and investigates behaviours displayed by children in need of support.
You will learn how to spot the signs a child is struggling and address issues early to help build a young persons resilience.
In 2022, 18% of children aged 7 to 16 years and 22% of young people aged 17 to 24 years had a probable mental disorder.

Children's mental health in context
In this unit you will understand the concept of mental health. An understanding of how society views mental health and how this has changed over time will also be investigated.
You will also understand the legislation in place to support children and young people’s mental health.
Risk factors
In this unit, you will understand the risk factors that can affect children and young people’s mental health and how these can be mitigated.
You will also investigate how developmental changes and puberty can impact children and young people.
Mental health concerns
In this unit you will understand behaviours displayed by children and young people that may indicate a mental health concern.
You will also investigate common mental health conditions that affect children and young people.
The impact of mental health concerns
In this unit you will investigate the impact of mental health concerns on children, young people and others.
You will also understand the importance of diagnosis and the reasons why there may be a reluctance to seek a diagnosis.
Supporting children and young people
In this unit, you will understand the support available for children and young people’s mental health.
You will investigate a person-centred approach, mental health promotion, and the services and treatment available.

Is the Children's Mental Health course free?
If you meet the eligibility criteria then YES!

Children’s Mental Health is a level 2 qualification.
