CALM Charity and Suicide Awareness UK

Creating a society where individuals feel empowered to seek help in times of distress.

About CALM Charity

CALM is a UK charity dedicated to preventing male suicide, which is the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK. CALM stands for Campaign Against Living Miserably.

Through helplines, campaigns, and support services, CALM aims to provide a safe space for men to talk about their mental health and seek help when needed.

The CALM mission is to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and promote a society where men feel comfortable reaching out for support.

The CALM Helpline UK

The CALM Helpline UK is a vital resource provided by the Campaign Against Living Miserably charity. It offers free, confidential, and anonymous support to individuals in the UK who are struggling with their mental health or experiencing thoughts of suicide.

The CALM helpline is available every day from 5 pm to midnight and can be reached at 0800 58 58 58.

CALM also offers a live, Web Chat service on its website thecalmzone.net. This service is also open from 5 pm until midnight 7 days a week.

Suicide Awareness and Prevention UK

Suicide awareness refers to the efforts and initiatives taken to increase understanding, knowledge, and awareness about suicide and its prevention.

It involves raising public awareness about the signs, risk factors, and available resources for individuals who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts or mental health challenges.

Suicide awareness aims to reduce stigma, promote early intervention, and provide support to those in need, ultimately working towards preventing suicide and saving lives.

How you can help with suicide awareness and prevention

There are several ways you can contribute to suicide awareness and prevention efforts:

  • Educate yourself: Learn about the warning signs, risk factors, and protective factors associated with suicide. This knowledge will help you recognise when someone may be in distress and in need of support.
  • Raise awareness: Share information about suicide prevention on social media, in your community, or through other platforms. Help dispel myths and reduce stigma surrounding mental health by promoting open conversations.
  • Support others: Be a compassionate listener and offer support to those who may be struggling. Encourage them to seek professional help and provide information about available resources, such as helplines or mental health services.
  • Volunteer: Consider volunteering with organizations that focus on suicide prevention. They often have various roles, such as helpline support, community outreach, or fundraising.
  • Advocate for mental health: Speak up about the importance of mental health and the need for accessible mental health services. Encourage policymakers to prioritise mental health funding and support initiatives that promote mental well-being.

Remember, it’s essential to prioritise your own well-being too. Take care of yourself and seek support if you need it.
